Edna is a fashion collection that draws inspiration from Thierry Mugler's legendary Futuristic & Fembot Couture collection from the late 20th century. The collection showcases the emergence of cyberpunk aesthetics in the wake of the Digitization Era that gave birth to films like Koyaanisqatsi (1982), Ghost in the Shell (1995), and The Matrix (1999). Edna takes inspiration from these dystopian representations of the challenging relationship between human conscience, technology, and the environment. The collection probes the intersection of the analog and the digital, challenging traditional conceptions of fashion through the coalescence of textiles, circuitry, and responsive technology. The agglutination of digital tools and fluid forms reflect the convergence of art and technology. Through a focus on futuristic silhouettes, Edna aims to disillusion the power divides and traditional conceptions of fashion. The integration of the analog and the digital creates an immersive experience that blurs the line between fashion and technology.
Created using woven fabric, leather, laser cut mirrored acrylic, and technology including wiring, a Liquid Crystal Display, and LED lights. This collection was displayed in Fashion at Brown's annual Spring Runway Show in March of 2023.
